Music

MISSION STATEMENT

Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School’s Music Department provides a comprehensive education to the aspiring young musician by setting high artistic standards while broadening musical horizons. Students gain the educational, social, and emotional foundation necessary to embark on successful, professional careers as artists.

COURSE OF STUDY

The music curriculum is designed for the prospective college student, as well as the future professional musician, by providing a solid foundation in performance skills, ensemble experience and music theory. Required courses include musicianship (music theory, ear training, and music history), piano class, private lessons, and performance ensembles. Through required participation in performing ensembles, students are able to apply concepts they have learned from their class instruction in a practical setting.

There are numerous opportunities for music students to appear in productions through Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center. These productions give students the chance to play side-by-side with working professional musicians and gain invaluable hands-on experience.

FACULTY

The Music Department offers both private and classroom instruction by some of the area’s finest musicians. All members of the Music Department faculty are professional musicians, and the faculty includes college instructors, both current and retired, and Pennsylvania certified teachers.

Some of the organizations represented by our faculty include the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Opera Theater, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, River City Brass Band, Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, Mellon Jazz Festival, Carnegie Mellon University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Westminster College, West Virginia Wesleyan University, and Slippery Rock University.

Students are also afforded the opportunity to interact with artists from world-class organizations, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, River City Brass band, Berklee College of Music and the Pittsburgh Opera, through master classes and recitals.
